Darien Virus Case Levels Stay High: County
The city experienced one more coronavirus death in the last week.
DARIEN, IL — Darien continues to see some of the highest weekly coronavirus levels since early January, according to the DuPage County Health Department.
As of Sunday, Darien had seen 2,276 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 59 in the last week. The week before last, the city experienced 60 new cases. These latest numbers are the highest in nearly a year. In early January, the city saw a weekly total of 86 new cases.
The city's number of coronavirus deaths increased by one in the last week, to 28. The deaths work out to about a thousandth of Darien's population.

As of Sunday, Darien had 105 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, better than its neighbors. The figure compares to 119 in DuPage County, 120 in Hinsdale, 122 in Elmhurst, 123 in La Grange Park, 130 in suburban Cook County, 131 in Clarendon Hills, 132 in La Grange and 134 in Western Springs.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,884,744, a 2.7 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 26,801.
Nationally, 49.7 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 1.7 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 793,937 people have died from the virus in the United States.
