Darien Woman's 'Gift of Valuable Leadership' Earns Induction to 4-H Hall of Fame
The Illinois 4-H Foundation annually recognizes one 4-H volunteer per county for exemplary service.

A local woman was among those recognized for her above-and-beyond contributions to the state's 4-H foundation.
Darien's Tricia Giron joined 73 other members who were inducted into the Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame. The group represents the largest inductee class in the program's 12 years, according to a news release.

“These long-time volunteers fully embody what 4-H strives to instill in youth,” said Angie Barnard, director of the foundation. “They are caring, dedicated, generous leaders, and the Illinois 4-H Foundation is extremely proud to be able to provide this honor to each and every one of them to thank them for their service to this wonderful organization.”
The honorees were recognized in front of hundreds of their supporters at an Aug. 20 ceremony at the Orr Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

With her background in education and food science, Giron has been an innovative new volunteer for University of Illinois Extension of DuPage County. Not only does she lead the community 4-H club Darien Dragons, but she also has volunteered to lead multiple workshops on STEM-related topics, including aerospace and food and nutrition.
“Tricia has jumped right in, providing valuable leadership at the club and county level,” said Christine Birns, 4-H program coordinator in DuPage County. “She has received positive feedback from all members and parents with whom she has interacted with throughout her three years as a 4-H volunteer. Her ability to relate to members and adults is truly a gift that does not go unnoticed. DuPage County looks forward to working with Tricia for years to come!”
Giron also was an 11-year 4-H member as a youth in Macon County. The Illinois 4-H Foundation established the statewide Hall of Fame in 2004 to honor and celebrate extraordinary 4-H alumni, volunteers, and former 4-H staff.
“As a result of these volunteers’ years of service and leadership to Illinois 4-H, the program they love will continue to create brilliant futures for the young people whose lives it touches," Barnard said.
