Fast Food Chain Opens 3rd Darien Location

DARIEN, IL – What was once a Wendy's is now a Dunkin' Donuts in Darien.

Recently, Dunkin' Donuts opened at 7100 Kingery Highway, which is at the corner with Plainfield Road. A grand opening was held a week ago.

Last December, Wendy's closed unexpectedly, with a sign referring customers to restaurants in Westmont and Downers Grove.

The company later told Patch that "closures are a normal activity to maintain a healthy system."

The new Dunkin' is the chain's third location in Darien, with the others at 7532 S. Cass Ave. and 2445 75th St.

Another old chain restaurant building apparently remains available in Darien – the old TGI Fridays at 2201 75th St. Last December, the restaurant closed as the chain has struggled in recent years.

In a business update in August, Mayor Joseph Marchese said a property management company continues to market the building. He said the city would work with brokers to ensure the site is "repurposed efficiently and in line with community needs."

Asked about TGI Fridays, he said the city has seen no movement on the property, receiving "random calls" that involve "kicking tires."
