Fitness Chain To Open In Darien, Developer Says
More than one national chain was interested in the property, the city was told.
DARIEN, IL – A national fitness chain is coming into a Darien shopping center, a developer said Wednesday.
The chain is Planet Fitness, which has more than 2,700 locations in the United States and four other countries.
Vick Mehta, owner of Downers Grove-based Indvestia Capital, revealed the information during a meeting of the Darien Plan Commission.

The panel unanimously approved the project's zoning. Member Christopher Jackson abstained from the vote, saying he had a property interest in the matter.
Planet Fitness is set for the shopping center northeast of 75th Street and Cass Avenue. It would be in the space formerly occupied by American Freight and Sears.

According to city documents, Mehta indicated that more than one national fitness chain was interested in the 25,000 square feet of space.
As a retail building, the space is mostly empty to allow a future tenant to complete a build-out, the city said.
