Flight Frequency Soars Over Darien and Willowbrook, Thanks to 'Fly Quiet' Program

Local officials say a Chicago initiative is the cause of more planes overhead.

More planes have been cruising over the Willowbrook and Darien areas in recent days, and they're doing so at lower altitudes, local officials said this week.

The reason?

"This change in commercial flight paths is part of a new initiative called the Fly Quiet Program," said a village of Willowbrook community update. "As part of this program, airlines operating at O’Hare have voluntarily agreed to use designated noise abatement flight procedures in an effort to reduce the impacts of aircraft noise on neighborhoods surrounding O’Hare."

The changes in air paths also affect flights out of Midway. The Fly Quiet Runway Rotation Test will occur over a 25-week period that runs through Dec. 18.
