FranCenter is Chicagoland's Educational Resource for Specialized Learning
FranCenter's Al Marciante discusses the Darien-based center's professional services and resources for parents.
FranCenter was founded in 1983 to assist children and families with learning-related and social-emotional issues. The center's success as the area's premier learning center opened the door to providing special programs for schools.
Patch: What is the FranCenter definition of success?
FranCenter: Our goal for every student is to become a capable, independent learner. The individualized program developed for each child builds on their strengths and weaknesses. Our motto is “Courage to Try, Confidence to Succeed.” What we’ve continually heard from parents is that they claim to have remarkable experiences because we utilize many different modalities in our work with their children. We don’t have a pre-packaged, canned program.

Patch: What resources does FranCenter provide for parents?
FranCenter: We want to relieve the stresses of homework at home! Sessions are one-to-one so that the needs of each child are met. Students work with a qualified teacher on clearly established goals, such as executive function skills, reading and/or math skills. FranCenter works with students on test taking skills to prepare for the ACT and SAT. Parents whose child is struggling with academic issues at school may want to pursue testing to determine what interventions will improve learning. For students experiencing social-emotional issues, FranCenter offers counseling services.
