Man Tries to Run From Cops After Stealing Car: Darien Police Blotter

The Darien Police Department had a busy weekend. Read below for details about crimes on the blotter.

Car theft
Police responded to a call from OnStar that a car, which had previously been reported as stolen in Chicago, was seen in a parking lot off of Route 83 in Darien. Five men were arrested in connection with the theft when police stopped the car in a traffic stop.

One man, Demarco Sheppard, 18, was not only charged with motor vehicle theft and not having a valid driver’s license, but also tried to run away from the officer who stopped him.

Deshawntea Bates, 18, was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass to a Vehicle and had an outstanding warrant out of the Chicago Police Department.

Both Sheppard and Bates were taken to DuPage County Jail in Wheaton.

Three other boys, all under 18, were released to their parents with pending charges of Criminal Trespass to a Vehicle.

Retail theft
Nichole Klucina, 25, and D. Jana Williams, 24, were arrested Oct. 28 for trying to steal clothes and a toy from the Walmart at 2189 75th St. The purchases were valued at $56. Both women were processed at the police station and let go with a court date.

Providing alcohol to a minor
Andrew Cole, 18, of Nantucket Dr. in Darien, was arrested Oct. 30 and charged with Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile and Illegal Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. He was released with a set court date of Nov. 30 in Wheaton.

DUI
Fredy Torrijos-Quintana, 23, of Willowbrook, was arrested for driving under the influence Oct. 30. He failed a breathalyzer test, wasn’t paying attention to traffic control signals and almost caused an accident at the 75th St. and Cass Ave. intersection because he was speeding.
