On Monday night, District 86 (including Darien's Hinsdale South High School) Superintendent Nicholas Wahl announced that he would be resigning his position. Here's what's been going on:

D86 Superintendent Nicholas Wahl Resigns

The Hinsdale Township High School District 86 Board of Education voted unanimously to accept the unexpected resignation of Superintendent Nicholas Wahl at Monday night’s meeting at Hinsdale South.

The vote came after the board deliberated in closed session for approximately 20 minutes. All six board members present voted to accept the resignation. Jennifer Planson was absent.

Wahl worked as District 86's superintendent for eight years.

Bruce Law Takes Over As Acting D86 Superintendent

District 86 assistant superintendent for instruction Bruce Law was appointed acting superintendent after the resignation of Nick Wahl was announced Monday night.

Law has served as assistant superintendent since 2010, when he began with the district.

“Dr. Law [has been] responsible for leading District 86 curriculum initiatives and title grants as well as overseeing professional development, managing the English Language Learners program, and supervising instructional technology,” Board President Claudia Manley said Monday.

Board Member Has 'Serious Concerns' About D86 After Wahl Resignation

While her fellow District 86 board members quietly voted to accept Superintendent Nicholas Wahl’s sudden resignation Monday night, Kay Gallo made her feelings known before casting her vote to accept.

“I’m extremely saddened by this turn of events. In my opinion Dr. Wahl was treated inconsiderately by this board majority,” Gallo said, an apparent reference to the four-member block of Victor Casini, Ed Corcoran, Claudia Manley and Richard Skoda that emerged when the new board was seated in May and immediately canceled and re-bid the summer construction work approved by the previous board.

“I have serious concerns about the future of this district,” said Gallo, a board member since 2009.

Ex-D86 Superintendent Wahl Takes New Job in Indiana

One day after former District 86 Superintendent Nicholas Wahl's resignation was made official, a school board in Indiana announced Tuesday it will hire Wahl as its top administrator. And it appears pay is not behind the lateral move.

Wahl is set to become the superintendent for Carmel Clay Schools in Carmel, Ind., according to Indianapolis' WISH TV, pending its board's final approval of his contract on Aug. 28.

WISH TV reports Wahl's starting base salary in Carmel will be $195,000. That's more than $58,000 less than his 2012-13 District 86 base salary of $253,040, which can be found here on the District 86 website.
