Study: Darien Less Likely to Have Internet Access than Bolingbrook, Lemont

Homeowners living in Darien are less likely to have home Internet access than residents in Lemont and parts of Bolingbrook and Naperville, according to a study.

However, Darien was slightly more likely to have in-home Internet access than Woodridge and Downers Grove. 

Darien scored a 122 in the Chicago Business' Market Facts study of the likelihood of homes having Internet access. The figure was average for DuPage County, which ranged from 104 (Bensenville's 60106 zip code) to 135 (Naperville's 60564). 

Lemont was slightly more likely to have in-home Internet access with a score of 125, while Woodridge was slightly less likely, with a score of 118. 

The national average is represented by an index of 100, the study said.

Surfing Facebook or watching YouTube videos may not be the only benefit to being connected to the Internet.

According to a report in National Journal, an expansion of broadband Internet could improve the health of rural Americans through telemedicine, electronic prescriptions, and electronic medical records.

According to the report, other benefits include making administrative work more efficient; providing guidance to paramedics; and helping seniors via in-home monitoring.
