Suspicious Man Offered Young Girl a Ride Home

The attempted child abduction took place Nov. 17, police say.

A 10-year-old girl was approached around 4:20 p.m. Nov. 17 by a suspicious man in a car.

The girl, who is a student at Marker Elementary in Westmont, got off a bus alone at 67th and Ridge, according to the City of Darien.

The man pulled up next to her in a newer-looking, clean, dark gray four-door car and spoke to her.

He said, “What is your name sweetheart” and asked if she wanted a ride home, police reported.

The girl said she ran home, and the man was last seen going toward Cass Avenue. Three hours passed before the incident was reported to Darien police.

The man is described as in his 40s with short hair, and he spoke with a “slang accent,” police reported. The girl said she had never seen the man before and she doesn’t know what kind of car he was driving.

The Darien Police Department is investigating and will have extra patrols in the area.
