📰 News we're reading

1. Decatur to install radar speed signs to enhance traffic safety (foxillinois.com) — Decatur will soon install eight mobile radar speed signs on several busy streets, including stretches of West Main, North MacArthur, and Mound Road, to slow drivers down. The city council-approved devices will display real-time speeds, collect traffic data, and kick off broader safety efforts aimed at protecting local neighborhoods.

2. Macon County warns of phone scams impersonating officials (foxillinois.com) — If you live in Decatur or elsewhere in Macon County, deputies say to watch out for scam calls pretending to be county officials demanding money for inmate release or missed jury duty. Callers even use real inmate names and a fake “Lt. Jamie Belcher” voicemail. Hang up, share no information, and report any such calls to local law enforcement.

3. Decatur bar fight leads to four arrests, police say (wcia.com) — A late-night disturbance at Port Royal Gastropub in Decatur led to four people receiving notices to appear in court after a fight between a patron and the DJ escalated. Police say chairs were raised, pepper spray was used, and a co-owner briefly displayed an unloaded handgun despite lacking a FOID card, while another woman allegedly shattered the bar’s glass door.

4. St. Theresa receives $5k award after WSOY Food Drive (wandtv.com) — St. Theresa’s High School in Decatur just earned a $5,000 top prize in the WSOY Community Food Drive, edging out several other area schools and doubling last year’s cash thanks to a foundation donation. Local United Way leaders say nearly half of Macon County families are struggling financially, underscoring how student-led efforts like this help meet growing food pantry needs.

5. Cameo To Cold; Black Ice Threat (wandtv.com) — Decatur residents are being warned about a potential black ice threat tonight as temperatures plunge into the teens, making roads and sidewalks dangerously slick even when they look just wet. A local meteorologist explains the difference between freezing rain and black ice, noting gusty winds may help dry some pavement but urging everyone to stay alert, warm, and cautious while traveling.
