Cell Phone Use Leads to Arrest

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Driver’s License Infraction 

Maria Isabel Soriano-Mendez, 33, of Highland Park was arrested Feb. 19 for driving without a valid driver’s license and driving while using a hand held cell phone, according to Deerfield Police reports. 

Police observed Soriano-Mendez driving and talking on a cellular phone by her ear in the 1000 block of Deerfield Road, according to the report. After stopping her, police discovered she did not have a license. She was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 3 p.m. April 2 in Park City.

DUI 

Douglas Kenney, 40, of Pacific Palisades, CA, was arrested Feb. 20 for driving under the influence alcohol, illegal possession of cannabis, illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license expired and speeding, according to Deerfield Police reports

Police spotted Kenney turning eastbound on Lake Cook Road from Waukegan Road at 57 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per hour zone, according to the report. After making the turn, police observed Kenney weaving in his lane. 

After stopping him, police smelled an odor of alcohol on Kenney’s breath, according to the report. He failed field sobriety tests and did not agree to a breath test. A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up cannabis and a glass smoking pipe. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Waukegan.
