D109 Test Scores Well Above State Average, Down Slightly in Reading vs. 2013

The Deerfield District 109 board heard a presentation this week on ISAT test results.

Deerfield’s District 109 students outpace the state average by a wide margin on both the reading and math components of the most recent ISAT tests.

D109 students meet or exceed standards at a rate 25-30 percentage points higher than the state average, according to information presented to the board this week.

Reading scores for grades 3-8 ranged from 82-89 percent meeting or exceeding standards, while the state average was between 55 and 59 percent. In math, the grades’ meeting or exceeding scores ranged from 81 to 91 percent, while the state average was 56 to 64 percent.

The district’s reading scores fell about 2 percent compared to the previous year, though this is in keeping with the expected fall in the state average, the presentation said. The scores for some grades and some schools improved year over year. District-wide math scores were up slightly between 2013 and 2014.

The official statewide results will be released at the end of the month.
