Deerfield Freshman Released From Hospital After Highland Park Shooting
A GoFundMe has been set up to assist the family of Jamie Mazariegos, who was shot in the chest.

DEERFIELD, IL — A incoming freshman at Deerfield High School is home recovering after being shot in the chest in last week's Independence Day parade shooting in Highland Park. Principal Kathryn Anderson, in an email to school families, said Jamie Mazariegos was treated and released from the hospital following the shooting.
"As a school community, we extend our thoughts, prayers, and support to Jamie and her family," Anderson said.
In addition, a GoFundMe has been set up for Mazariegos and her family. The campaign was set up by Mazariegos's sister, Elizabeth Angeles, who had attended the parade with her 7-year-old daughter and Jamie.

"We were able to quickly drive her [Jamie] to the hospital and she is now home with us recovering, but we have been told that it will be a lengthy recovery process," Angeles said. "I'm asking for help so that our living expenses can be paid while my mom takes off work to be with my sister and assist with her recovery."
As of Monday morning, the GoFundMe campaign has raised $96,748 in just two days. The goal was set at $85,000.
