Deerfield Grays Take July 4th Baseball Title
Bradley McAvoy provides spark on the mound and at the plate as continual comebacks earn Fourth of July trophy.
Solid performances from the entire team keyed the Deerfield 10U Grays to a 9-7 victory over Palatine last weekend and the Northbrook Fourth of July Tournament championship at Meadowhill Park.
Deerfield’s path to the title game was not easy. After falling to Palatine in the initial round robin pool, the Grays needed a seven-run sixth inning for an 11-7 victory over Lake Forest to advance to the semifinals.
After the comeback win against Lake Forest, Deerfield was down by six runs to Park Ridge before an eight-run rally in the top of the eighth inning put them in the title game against Palatine. This time, the Grays persevered in part on the strength of Bradley McAvoy’s pitching and hitting.
