Former McDonald’s Head to Lead Walgreens Board

James A. Skinner became the non-executive chairman of today, according to a news release from the company.

A member of Walgreens board of directors since 2005, Skinner retired recently as the chief executive officer of McDonalds. He replaces Al McNally who was the chairman since 2009 and a board member since 1999.  According to the release, this is consistent with Walgreens “succession and rotational planning process.” McNally remains on the board.

While at McDonalds’s, Skinner oversaw the company’s expansion into Europe. Walgreens recently acquired a 45 percent stake in .

“Jim Skinner’s long experience on the Walgreens board and decades of global success with McDonald's expanding to Europe and emerging markets make him an exceptional choice to lead our board into the future on behalf of shareholders and stakeholders,” director Bill Foote said. Foote chairs the company’s nominating and governance committee.
