DEERFIELD, IL — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Rachel D. Hyman, who nominated Maxwell, a senior at Deerfield High School in Deerfield. Hyman is Maxwell's mother.

How do you know the star local student?

Parent

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Incredible dedication and passion as he created, developed, and ran Teens 4 Peace Model UN and Teens 4 Peace in the Middle East. Hundreds of teens from over 50 countries got involved to discuss teen based issues such as gun violence in schools, child labor laws, climate change, etc. Max fostered teens from around the globe to voice their concerns and tackle issues collaboratively when no one would listen to teens who wanted to make the world a better place. His stories are inspiring and his impact has been huge throughout the world.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Despite local entities not supporting his dream to make the world a better place, Max persisted and created dialogue between Israeli and Palestinian youth who wanted to look beyond stereotypes. Being driven to make a positive difference in the world comes from within for Max and gives us hope for a more peaceful future.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Maxwell!
