Late Warrior Rally Sinks Lane Tech

Deerfield High School soccer team records victory while badminton squad falls to Stevenson.

A goal by Emily Kellow with 32 seconds remaining broke a 1-1 tie to give the Deerfield High School soccer team a 2-1 victory Monday over Lane Tech at Adams Field.

The Final Score:        Deerfield 2, Lane Tech 1 

Warriors Star Performers:  JoElla Guagliardo scored a goal and kept Lane all stater Sophia Pavon from making an impact. Claire Mulert had an assist and blanketed Lane all state forward Jasmine Carrera to make her a non factor in the contest.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Kellow scored the winning goal while Samara Haas and Margot Sylvan added assists. Bailey Bradford kept all but one Lane Tech shot out of the net with eight saves.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Warren at 7 p.m. Friday. 

The Bottom Line:      The defense of Mulert and Guagliardo made Lane Tech’s all state tandem a non factor in the game limiting the time they touched the ball and the chances they had to score, according to Coach Rich Grady. 

Offensively, the Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute as Haas and Mulert set up Guagliardo’s goal. After Lane tied the contest with 20 minutes left, Deerfield kept attacking until Kellow and Sylvan took the ball downfield with Kellow getting the game winner with 32 seconds left. 

Badminton 

The Final Score:        Stevenson 13, Deerfield 5 

Warriors Star Performers:  Cara Silverman, Katie Frankel, Ally Kolpas, Laura Holzman and Lauren Spungen earned victories.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Maine West at 4:30 today.
