Photo Gallery: DHS Honors Hall of Famers, Senior Wrestlers

Jim Coleman and Dru Meshes became the latest members of the Deerfield High School Wrestling Hall of Fame Thursday.

At the same time, 12 current Warrior seniors were honored before Deerfield’s Thursday meet against Maine West.

Coleman wrestled with injury—seven knee surgeries—as much as opponents during his time as an athlete at Deerfield and the University of Michigan. As a senior he finished third at the State Meet despite competing “on one leg” during his semifinal and third-place matchs, according to current Coach Marc Pechter.

Since graduating from Deerfield in 1971, Coleman has devoted himself to a business career.

Meshes was a Warrior from 1972 through 1975 before wrestling for Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville on a full scholarship. During that time, he not only took fourth in the State Meet as a senior but he finished second and third at the national level in different competitions.

Like Coleman, Meshes has been in the business world as an adult.

Seniors honored were Tom Bonadies, Chase Hanusa, Patrick Johnson, Jim Kirby, Nick LaPorte, Louis Levine, Jordan Lieberman, Brian McCann, JJ Nawrot, Ari Sapinsley and Greg Scarry. Scorekeeper Katy Grossman was recognized as well.
