Rev. Hull Leads Congregational Church

has serves people in Deerfield the rest of the North Shore. Rev. Blair Hull has its spiritual leader since 1995. Rev. Hull recently took the time to answer five questions for Patch. 

What do you like most about living and/or working in Deerfield? Deerfield has lots to offer. It is both sophisticated, and down home—friendly, and full of religious choices and options. There is also a great Whole Foods in Deerfield. 

What do you find most fascinating about the people in Deerfield? The people in Deerfield all have a big heart. 

What has been your most uplifting experience in your current position? I would say the work that we do for and with people in Deerfield who defy the norm. We raise vegetables for the local food pantry as well as a soup kitchen in Chicago. We have instituted a gleaning program at the Deerfield Farmer's Market to gather food and then distribute it to the people who most need it in our community. While most of Deerfield is blessed with enough resources to thrive, there are some who do not. While CCID is perhaps one of the smallest churches in Deerfield we are a church with a big heart, and we do our best, in some small ways to help others in our community and beyond. 

Why is Deerfield a good community for North Suburban Church?  Our church attracts its members from Deerfield as well as from other communities such as Vernon Hills, Mundelein, Lake Forest, Buffalo Grove, Palatine and even as far as Roselle and Evanston. We are an open minded church who welcomes people where ever they are on their faith journey. We are open and affirming to people who are GLBTQ; we are open to people who are questioning their faith, and we are open to people who are absolutely sure what they believe, and everything in between.

Here we find away to accept each other where we are. At CCID we work as best as we are able to be who God has called us to be. We are a welcoming, healthy and open minded community, where we strive to do God's work, not just in Deerfield but outside Deerfield as well. 

Deerfield is the kind of community that finds room and accepts many faith communities and we have found this place is a good fit for our little church. 

What brought you to your current position in Deerfield and how long have you been there? I have been the pastor of the Congregational Church in Deerfield since 1995. And I was definitely called to this place. We have done great things together in these past years. I am very proud of what we have accomplished and the ministry we have shared.
