Shepard Middle School sent its 187 eighth graders off to high school Wednesday in the school’s annual promotion ceremony in the Deerfield High School auditorium.
After the students entered the auditorium in their red (boys) and white (girls) gowns, Brendan Egan gave the ceremonial address.

After Deerfield Public Schools District 109 Superintendent Renee Goier presented the class to the District 109 Board, they received their diplomas from Board President Steven Schwartz and Board member Bennett Brenner.
Before the new high school freshmen marched out, Shapiro gave awards to six students. Alex Burn and Sarah Minster received the Outstanding Student Awards while Andrew Israel won the Frank Witcher Memorial Award.
