Walgreens To Grow by 144 Stores
Deerfield base retail drug store giant is acquiring a major southern chain.

, the nation’s largest retail drug store chain, will be adding 144 retail units to its world-wide system, according to a news release from the corporation.
The company announced from its corporate headquarters on Wilmot Road today it has entered into an agreement to purchase the 144-unit USA Drug with operations in Arkansas, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
“This acquisition expands our business in an important region of the country,” Walgreens President and CEO Greg Wasson said in the release. “It will provide significant new pharmacy business for us in this region while also enabling us to bring the Walgreens experience to many additional smaller communities.”

According to the release, Walgreens will pay $438 million for the company which had sales last year of $825 million. The deal, expected to be complete in September, is subject to regulatory requirements and other closing conditions.
