Des Plaines Woman Pushed 3-Year-Old Into Lake Michigan At Navy Pier: Police

The woman, identified by WGN as the child's aunt, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A Des Plaines woman accused of pushing a 3-year-old into Lake Michigan at Navy Pier has been charged with multiple felonies, according to police.

Victoria Moreno, 34, of the 900 block of Greenview Avenue, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery of a child under 13 causing a permament disability, police announced Wednesday.

The incident occurred about 1 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of Grand Avenue in Chicago, according to police, who reported Moreno shoved the boy into the water and did not try to rescue him. WGN identified Moreno as the child's aunt and reported that the boy was being watched by his grandmother Monday when Moreno took the child while the grandmother was changing.

The incident at Navy Pier was captured by surveillance, according to WGN, but police have not released any video.

The boy was pulled from the lake by emergency personnel and taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital in critical condition, police said. The child suffered cardiac arrest and was not expected to live, the Chicago Sun-Times previously reported.
