Drug Store, Convenient Store and Gas Stations’ Clerks Cited for Selling Cigarettes to a Minor

Unlawful Sale of Tobacco to a Minor
Police conducted a series of tobacco compliance checks between 5:35 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. on April 30. According to the reports, in the checks, a 15-year-old confidential informant was sent into locations that sell tobacco with a valid state ID card stating the correct age. Police stated the informant was instructed to present the ID if asked, and, if asked for her age, to respond truthfully:

- Jitendra A. Chokshi, age unknown, of Des Plaines, was issued a citation for unlawful sale of tobacco to a minor after selling a pack of cigarettes at 7-Eleven, 2579 Ballard Road.
- Linda Lutz, 61, of Franklin Park, was issued a citation for unlawful sale of tobacco to a minor after selling a pack of cigarettes at Walgreens, 17 W. Golf Road.
- Jose Kuruvilla, 43, of Des Plaines, was issued a citation for unlawful sale of tobacco to a minor after selling a pack of cigarettes at the BP gas station, 1215 S. Lee St.
- Varghese Abraham, 60, of Des Plaines, was issued a citation for unlawful sale of tobacco to a minor at the BP gas station, 1990 S. Mannheim Road.
