Friday Blotter: Scrap Metal Stolen From Bus Depot

Cash and other items removed in 3 reported auto burglaries.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Scrap metal theft

Police responded to a theft report at a bus company in the 900 block of East Northwest Highway on Sept. 14. According to the report, an employee told police he observed two black men in a red Ford pickup truck enter the property at 7:35 a.m. in violation of “No Trespassing” signs. The men removed 300-500 pounds of scrap steel, valued at $3,000, from a storage bin in the northeastern area of the lot.

2 GPS devices stolen

Police were dispatched to a vehicular burglary report in the 300 block of Lawn Lane on Sept. 14. According to the report, GPS devices were removed from two unlocked vehicles at the residence between 3 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. Sept. 13.

Wallet stolen

Police were dispatched to an auto burglary report in the 400 block of Wilkins Drive on Sept. 13. According to the report, a wallet containing a credit card, driver’s license and other miscellaneous cards was removed from a vehicle between 7 p.m. Sept. 12 and 5:30 a.m. Sept. 13. There was no sign of forced entry.

Cash stolen

Police responded to a vehicular burglary report in the 100 block of West Norman Court on Sept. 13. According to the report, $150 was removed from a wallet inside the vehicle. The victim told police other items were scattered all over his vehicle, but only the cash was missing.
