False ‘Active Shooter’ Alarm Prompts Evacuation At Maine West: Report
The Des Plaines Police Department asked residents to avoid the area Friday morning.

DES PLAINES, IL — Police responded to a report of shots fired Friday morning in the area of Maine West High School Friday morning, but one outlet, citing a statement from the district, reported the incident was caused by an accidental activation of the school's active shooter alarm.
At around 10:30 a.m., police said in a social media post that the school had been evacuated and asked people to avoid the area "until further notice." There have been no reports of injuries at this time, according to police.
WLS-TV is reporting the active shooter alarm went off accidentally, citing Maine Township High School District 207. Patch has reached out to the district for more information.

According to Journal & Topics, a text was sent to parents telling them not to come to the campus and stating, "We are aware of the intruder alarm that was set off this morning. At this time we are investigating and taking all precautionary measures out of an abundance of caution and have enacted our active shooter protocol."
