Monday Blotter: Forged Check, Disturbance on the Metra, More

Forgery
Police responded to a forgery report at First Midwest Bank, 749 S. Lee St., at 4:55 p.m. on Feb. 9. According to the report, when police spoke with Nikki L. Bell, 25, of Chicago, she asked if there was something wrong with the check she was trying to cash. Bell, according to the report, said she had just sold her car through a third party and was trying to cash the check.

Bank employees advised police the account had been flagged before Bell came into the bank, and there had been a large check drawn on the account just after 4 p.m. in Chicago.
At the police station Bell told police, according to the report, two friends contacted her and wanted to know if she would go with them and cash checks. She said the friends told her she would receive $1,000 for every check she cashed, and would have to give $100 to the driver.

Bell agreed to go with them, and, according to the report, knew the checks were bad because she was getting so much money to cash them. Bell said the bank in Des Plaines was the second bank they tried.
Bell was given a bond court date of Feb. 10 at Skokie courthouse, and a court date of Feb. 21 at Skokie courthouse.

Criminal Damage to Property
Police were dispatched for a vandalism report in the 1900 block of S. Spruce Avenue at 1:52 p.m. on Feb. 8. According to the report, an unknown offender damaged a gate in the backyard of a residence, but remained locked, sometime between 5 p.m. on Feb. 6 and 11 a.m. on Feb. 8.
Disorderly Conduct
Police responded to a disorderly conduct report at the Metra train depot, 1501 E. Miner St., at 9:06 p.m. on Feb. 8. According to the report, Terry J. Corbin, 36, of Palatine, was charged with disorderly conduct after a conductor told police Corbin was causing a disturbance on the train, asking passengers questions, and allegedly said if he had a bomb, he could find the remote for it.
Corbin appeared to be highly intoxicated, according to the report, and told police he was speaking with passengers, but made no statements about a bomb.
Corbin was given a court date of March 19 at Skokie courthouse.
Failure to Wear Seat Safety Belt, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Police conducted a traffic stop for a failure to wear a seat safety belt on a vehicle in the 1600 block of E. Golf Road at 3:51 p.m. on Feb. 9. According to the report, the driver, Daniel Wegrzyn, 22, of Des Plaines, was issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia after police recovered a gold grinder used for grinding cannabis from his Ford Explorer. The passenger, Charles W. Reither, 23, of Park Ridge, was issued a citation for failure to wear a seat safety belt.
