Update: Police Shot and Killed a Des Plaines Man Outside a Strip Mall

A reader reported a "mound covered with a blue tarp" in the middle of the parking lot.

 shot and killed a man outside a strip mall in the 1900 block of E. Touhy Avenue at approximately 3:12 p.m. on May 13, police stated on Monday.

Carlos Salgado, 44, of Des Plaines, was fatally shot, but the report did not give details about what happened leading up to the shooting. Salgado was listed as an offender, but a specific crime was not given in the report.

Police stated officers involved were injured, treated at Lutheran General Hospital and released; the report did not specify how many officers were treated.

According to the report, the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force was called to the scene to investigate. Police stated the task force often investigates other agencies when there is a shooting.

A reader reported the parking lot, and westbound lane of Touhy Avenue were closed for a period of time while the police and fire departments responded. The reader also reported there was “a large mound covered with a blue tarp” in the middle of the parking lot.
