Prism Concert to Celebrate Holidays at Maine West
Maine West faculty, students, families and community members will gather in the Des Plaines high school's auditorium on Sunday for the annual showcase of talent.
The following information was submitted by David Beery, spokesperson for Maine Township High School District 207, which includes Maine West High School in Des Plaines, Maine South High School in Park Ridge and Maine East High School in Niles.
An annual community favorite β the Maine West High School Prism Concert β will be presented twice on Sunday, Dec. 16, with the first presentation beginning 2 p.m. and a second performance set for 4:45 p.m.
Featuring Westβs talented students in band, orchestra and choral ensembles, the concert is unique in that it features 90 minutes of continuous music. The minute one song ends, the next one begins, as directors and students make use of multiple performance locations within the auditorium.

Among the highlighted numbers for bands are βOver the River and Through the Woods,β a jazz version of βJoy to the World,β βMarch of the Three Kings,β and βA Christmas Can-Can!βΒ Choirsβ featured numbers include βJingle Bells,β βCandlelight Carol,β βBashana Haba'a,β βDo You Hear What I Hear,β and Β βSilver Bells.βΒ Highlighted pieces from the Orchestra include βHappy Holidays,β βWhite Christmas,β βVeni, Veni (O Come, O come,Β Emmanuel),β and βChristmas Eve in Sarajevo 12/24.β
Directing will be Maine West Director of Bands Bernie Gerstmayr, Director of Orchestras Daniella Valdez and Director of Choirs Ben Avci.Β The concert is presented by the Fine Arts Department under the leadership of Fine Arts Chair Pat Barnett.
