Unlawful Acquisition of Controlled Substance

A woman reported to police on Jan. 22 she received text messages from Walgreens in Elgin stating she had prescriptions that had been ready for pick up around Jan. 16. The prescriptions and doctors were not hers. According to the report, she then received text messages from the Walgreens in Des Plaines, 21 Rand Road, stating that her prescriptions were ready for pick-up.

The drugs ordered were 120 pills of 10 milligrams of Norco and 60 pills of 750 milliliters of Relafen, both painkillers.

The Des Plaines Walgreens store manager, according to the report, said a balding white male in his mid-30’s wearing a hoodie, which he pulled up when he approached the pharmacy counter, purchased the drugs for a $20 co-payment. The unknown offender kept looking at a piece of paper in his pocket before completing the transaction.

Possession of Cannabis, Drug Paraphernalia

Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 900 block of E. Forest Avenue after the driver disobeyed a stop sign at 4:38 p.m. on Jan. 21. According to the report, police asked the driver, later identified as Omar U. Ahmed, 22, of Des Plaines, to exit the vehicle after the officer smelled cannabis in the car.

Police observed cannabis residue in the cup holders and center console of the vehicle, according to the report. During the search police recovered an orange and gray metal pipe, commonly used to ingest cannabis, an electronic scale, a plastic baggie with four orange pills in the glove compartment, a small bud of a green, leafy substance on the floorboard by the passenger seat, four pink pills on the armrest in the backseat, a container of baggies and rolling papers.

Police also allegedly recovered a backpack from the vehicle, which contained a blue, glass pipe, and a glass jar containing a green, leafy substance, which tested positive for the probable presence of cannabis. Police identified the pills on Drugs.com as amphetamine/dextroamphetamine. The pills and cannabis were sent to the Illinois State Police Lab for analysis.

Ahmed told police, according to the report, he bought the cannabis for $300 from someone he met while visiting the University of Wisconsin at Madison last week. He said he had the pills for a month, he got them from a friend at DePaul University, and he had forgotten the pills and the baggies were in the vehicle. Ahmed also said he was a full-time student and currently unemployed.

Ahmed was charged with disobeyed stop sign, possession of cannabis over 30 grams, possession of cannabis with intent to deliver over 30 grams, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Ahmed was given a court date of Jan. 24 at Skokie courthouse.

Residential Burglary

Police were dispatched for a burglary report in the 1400 block of Oxford Road at 8:46 a.m. on Jan. 22. According to the report, sometime between noon on Dec. 23 and 2 p.m. on Jan. 22 approximately $3,000 in copper piping was removed from a resident’s basement. A realtor reported the missing piping after making the discovery showing the house to a client. No signs of forced entry were reported by police.
