Tuesday Blotter: Car With Tape-Covered Window Stolen

Vehicle's owner told police he did not have repairs done after an earlier break-in.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Burglary to Vehicle

Police responded to a report of burglary to vehicle in the 1600 block of East Walnut Avenue Aug. 20. According to the report, the driver’s side door window was smashed and a black GPS device, valued at $100, was stolen between 6 p.m. Aug. 19 and 12:19 a.m. Aug. 20. The vehicle’s trunk was also rifled, but nothing appeared to be missing. The damage was estimated at $300.

Car Stereo Stolen

Police responded to a reported vehicle burglary at Suburban Transmission in the 1500 block of East Rand Road on Aug. 22. According to the report, the shop manager discovered the interior of three vehicles in disarray. A car stereo had been removed from one of the vehicles.

The shop manager told police while working late Friday night, he heard a car alarm go off in his lot. When he went to investigate, he saw three males across the street, but did not contact police at that time.

Vehicle Vandalism

Police responded to a vandalism report in the 1100 block of Arnold Court on Aug. 23. According to the report, the rear passenger window of a sedan was shot out with a pellet gun. It did not appear the vehicle was burglarized.

Vehicle Theft

Police were dispatched to investigate a vehicle theft in the 2900 block of Curtis Street around 12:30 a.m. Aug. 24. According to the report, a man told police his blue 1989 Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan was missing. The owner said his car stereo was stolen about two weeks ago, and he had not repaired the smashed window, which had plastic tape over it. His girlfriend discovered the vehicle was missing while taking a walk Aug. 22.
