Tuesday Blotter: Man Allegedly Attempts to Lure Boys into Minivan, Man Allegedly Makes Threats Holding a Baseball Bat, More

Attempting Luring

Police responded to a disorderly conduct report in the 1200 block of Center Street at 3:27 p.m. on March 9. According to the report, a man described as Asian, in his 50’s, with a wrinkled face, crooked yellow teeth and possibly wearing a red shirt, attempted to lure two boys into his older model white minivan with rusty running boards and a red rear door.

According to the report, the boys were walking southbound on Center Street from Algonquin Road when they saw the man drive past them, southbound on Center Street, and then turn around and drive northbound toward them. The vehicle stopped on the street next to them and the man asked them, according to the report, not verbatim, “Do you know how to play guitar? If not, come here and I’ll teach you.”

The boys became scared and ran to a residence. Once they arrived at the residence, according to the report, the man pulled into a driveway, backed up, and went southbound on Center Street.

Disorderly Conduct

Police responded to an assault call in the 600 block of S. Fifth Avenue at 6:10 p.m. on March 11. According to the report, the complainant told police a red Jeep Wrangler and an older model, white Pontiac Firebird pulled up in front of the house, and the driver exited the Firebird with a baseball bat in hand. The man with the bat called to the house for someone to come out and fight him. According to the report, the man made threats and used profanity. When the complainant came out of the house to speak with the man, he ran to his car and fled the scene.

Police located the vehicles and performed a traffic stop on the white Firebird on Wolf Road by Columbia Avenue. When police stopped the Firebird, the red Jeep continued northbound on Wolf Road, and returned to where the Firebird was curbed during the stop.

The driver of the Firebird was identified as Alexander M. Cohen, 18, of Mount Prospect. Cohen was issued a citation for disorderly conduct and given a court date of April 27 at Skokie courthouse.

Burglary to Trailer

Police responded to a burglary report in the 800 block of Seegers Road at 4:02 p.m. on March 11. According to the report, sometime between 3 p.m. on March 10 and 3 p.m. on March 11, an unknown offender removed landscaping equipment, including a 52-inch Wright stander and Echo blowers, from two trailers parked at the address. The property loss was estimated at $2,000.

Burglary

Police were dispatched to a burglary report in the 800 block of Rose Avenue at 9:19 a.m. on March 9. According to the report, sometime between 10 a.m. on March 8 and 9 a.m. on March 9, an unknown offender appeared to have entered the residence through a small, unlocked window in the basement. According to the report, the person used a hammer that was on the front room floor to make several holes in the dry wall in the front room. The offender also pulled the electric meter from the rear of the house, causing it to lose power. Property loss was estimated at $500.

Minor Consumption of Alcohol

While on patrol, police observed a man attempting to get their attention in order to hitch a ride at 3:50 a.m. on March 10. According to the report, when police made contact with the man, they smelled alcohol on his breath. Brian Godawa, 20, of Des Plaines, was issued a citation for minor consumption of alcohol and released to his mother at his residence.

Curfew Violation

Police were dispatched to a suspicious subject report at Fire Station 2, 1313 E. Oakton St., at 1:04 a.m. on March 10. According to the report, a teen from Mount Prospect rang the doorbell at the firehouse and asked for someone to call him a cab. When police arrived, according to the report, the boy said he was in Arlington Heights with some friends, and ended up at the McDonald’s in Des Plaines. Police transported him to the police station and contacted the boy’s father. The minor was charged with curfew violation and given a court date of April 24 at Skokie courthouse.
