Tuesday Blotter: No Front License Plate Leads to Drug Possession Charge, More

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports.

No Front Registration Plate, Possession of Cannabis

Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for not having a front license plate on the 1600 block of S. Mount Prospect Road at 12:25 p.m. on Sept. 26. Police stated when they approached they vehicle they smelled a strong odor of air freshener coming from the car. While speaking with the driver, Edwin Ramirez, 20, of Chicago, police observed four air fresheners hanging from his rearview mirror, a can of air freshener at his feet, and another can of air freshener on the floor in the back seat.

All four windows of the car were open, and after the smell of the air freshener dissipated, according to the report, police smelled cannabis. Police recovered a plastic food saver bag from the pocket behind the front seat with a green leafy substance that tested positive for the probable presence of cannabis. Ramirez was issued a citation for no front registration plate, charged with possession of cannabis and given a court date of Oct. 30 at Skokie courthouse.

Retail Theft

Stanley Baran, 46, of Des Plaines, was charged with retail theft after a store employee observed him put a bottle of Svedka vodka, valued at $17.99, under his jacket and attempt to leave Dominick’s grocery store, 1555 S. Lee St., without purchasing it between 12:20 p.m. and 12:26 p.m. on Sept. 26.

Illegal Dumping

A red leather sofa was dumped in front of a business, and large rocks were dumped on the side of the business, on the 1700 block of E. Busse Highway sometime between midnight on Sept. 19 and 2 p.m. on Sept. 26.
