Tuesday Blotter: String of Slashed Tires, Smashed Windows, More

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

Police were dispatched for a vandalism report in the 1400 block of S. Fourth Avenue at 6:42 a.m. on March 21. According to the report, sometime between 9 p.m. on March 20 and 6:42 a.m. on March 21 an unknown offender slashed the tires of two vehicles parked in front of the residence.

A number of other vehicles in the same area were also reported to have slashed tires including three more in the 1400 block of S. Fourth Avenue, one in the 1500 block of S. Fourth Avenue, one in the 800 block of S. Second Avenue and one in the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue, which also had its rear taillight smashed out. Property loss for all the vehicles was estimated at $1,550.

Burglary to Vehicle, Criminal Damage to Property

A man reported items were removed from his van while it was parked in front of Speedway gas station, 885 E. Touhy Ave., between 12:40 p.m. and 12:49 p.m. on March 9. According to the report, the van was locked, the lock on the passenger side cargo door was “popped,” and a laptop computer, checkbooks and other items were taken from behind the passenger seat. According to the report, the items were not visible from outside the vehicle, and the property loss was estimated at $1,200.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

Police were dispatched for a vandalism report in the 1800 block of S. Elmhurst Road at 11:25 a.m. on March 19. According to the report, the windshield and five windows on a pick-up truck were smashed sometime between noon on March 18 and 11 a.m. on March 19. The property loss was estimated at $1,500.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

Police responded to a vandalism report in the 1500 block of E. Miner Street at 1:03 a.m. on March 20. According to the report, sometime between 10:45 p.m. on March 19 and 1 a.m. on March 20, an unknown offender pulled the passenger’s side-view mirror housing off the vehicle, parked on the east side of the municipal parking lot, and threw it in the bushes on the west side of the parking lot. Property loss was estimated at $300.
