Wednesday Blotter: Man Allegedly Frightens Bus Rider, Urinates on Tree, More

The following arrest information was supplied by the Des Plaines Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports.

Disorderly Conduct, Resisting a Peace Officer

Police responded to a suspicious subject report at 1488 Miner St. at 10:38 p.m. on Feb. 17. According to the report, Jose F. Benavides-Carranza, 32, of Des Plaines, was observed allegedly urinating on a tree.

A woman told police that while she was waiting at the bus stop, Benavides-Carranza asked her where she was going. According to the report, she told police she was scared, so she ignored him. Benavides-Carranza began singing, and, after a short while, according to the report, began urinating on the nearby tree and sidewalk.

When police arrived on the scene they asked Benavides-Carranza what his name was, to which he replied, “No.” Police reported Benavides-Carranza appeared to be highly intoxicated.

When police told Benavides-Carranza he was under arrest, according to the report, he said, “Don’t touch me.” The responding officer grabbed him by the shoulder and attempted to escort Benavides-Carranza to the squad car. Benavides-Carranza allegedly pulled his shoulder from the officer’s grasp. The officer then grabbed Benavides-Carranza’s arm and forcefully escorted him to the rear of the squad car.

According to the report, Benavides-Carranza attempted to pull his arm from the officer’s grasp. The officer pulled Benavides-Carranza’s arms behind his back and handcuffed him.

After transporting Benavides-Carranza to the station, police asked him to get out of the squad car, and, according to the report, he refused. Benavides-Carranza said, according to the report, “No,” and began yelling in Spanish.

According to the report, Benavides-Carranza refused a second request by police to exit the squad car. Two officers lifted him out of the car and escorted him into a cell.

While in lock-up, according to the report, Benavides-Carranza yelled and banged on the cell door.

He was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting a peace officer, and given a court date of March 2 at Skokie courthouse.

Retail Theft

Police responded to a theft report at K-Mart, 1155 E. Oakton St., at 4:12 p.m. on Feb. 18. According to the report, Edgar Rodriquez, 30, of Rosemont, was observed selecting a flashlight, two sticks of deodorant and hair gel, and put the items into his pants pockets. The property loss was estimated at $32.40. Rodriguez was stopped by store employees after he walked past the last point of purchase. He was charged with retail theft, and given a court date of March 19 at Skokie courthouse.

Theft

Police were dispatched for a theft report at Frisbie Senior Center, 52 E. Northwest Highway, at 1:02 p.m. on Feb. 17. According to the report, a dance instructor left a small bag containing his wallet, $200 in cash and his cell phone in an open cart in the dance studio after class. When he returned to the room the bag was missing.

The president of the Frisbie Center told police this was the third theft incident in the last two weeks, and the previous two were not reported.
