Downers Grove police reports, Oct. 2.

TUESDAY, OCT. 2

Home, Car Burglaries on Stonewall Avenue

Downers Grove police were called to a home in the 4700 block of Stonewall Avenue around 6:48 a.m. for a burglary report.

The victim told police he and his wife were woken up around 2:49 a.m. by their dog barking. They got up and turned on the exterior house lights, but didn't see anything.

At 3 a.m., the dog began barking again, so the victim went downstairs to the lower level family room. He opened the door that led to the garage and noticed the garage door was open—something that didn't seem strange, since it had been accidentally left open in the past, police said.

According to police, the victim stayed awake in the kitchen for another 30 minutes before going back to bed.

At 6:30 a.m., the victim went downstairs to check his email, and noticed his laptop computer was missing from the table in the lower level family room, police said. He also noticed his phone missing from the same table, and an Amazon Kindle from an end table close to the door to the garage.

After the police were notified, the victim noticed several other items were missing, including a Chicago White Sox jacket, a beige purse and a Dewalt drill. The total value of all stolen items was about $1,210, according to police.

While outside the home, another resident of the 4700 block of Stonewall Avenue pulled up in his vehicle and told police his SUV was burglarized overnight. The car was parked in the driveway to the rear of his home, and the doors were likely unlocked, according to the report.

The second victim told police he was missing his golf bag and clubs from the rear of his SUV, as well as a laptop computer from the passenger compartment. The total value of all stolen items was about $1,700, police said.

While investigating the burglaries on Stonewall Avenue, police also responded to a report of a car burglary in the 1800 block of Grant Street—just around the block. The victim told police an unknown offender went through items in his vehicle, but it appeared nothing was missing.
