Downers Grove Junior Woman's Club Announces $10K Grant Recipient

At the September general meeting, the DGJWC membership voted to award the grant.

The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club (DGJWC) is pleased to announce the recipient of the $10,000 grant is the DuPage Senior Citizen Council.

“We want to take this opportunity to congratulate the DuPage Senior Citizens Council,” said Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club President Laura Hill. “We know that our $10,000 grant will go a long way to help the DuPage Senior Citizens Council provide the resources necessary to assist seniors in the Downers Grove Area.”

More than 20 local charities throughout Downers Grove Area applied for the $10,000 in grant. Applicants were judged on a variety of criteria including the relativity of the project to the mission of the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club, which is, service towards women, children and/or individuals in need within the community.

Three outstanding finalists were selected and asked to present at the DGJWC General Meeting on August 18th. At the September general meeting, the DGJWC membership voted to award the grant.

The DuPage Senior Citizens Council is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3), volunteer driven organization that provides meals and other types of support to DuPage County seniors and their families since 1975. DSCC is the designated “meals on wheels” provider in DuPage County. Annually, DSCC serves over 3,500 seniors and delivers more than 200,000 meals, provides 130,000 well-being checks, and completes over 1,000 home repair projects.

“The DuPage Senior Citizens Council is grateful to be the recipient of the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club grant,” said Executive Director Marylin Krolak. “Our organization is facing the strong probability of funding cuts from the State of Illinois, and the grant funds from the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club will go a long way to help the elderly live safely in their own homes and provide them with the resources necessary to maintain their independence, as well as their physical and mental health.”

“It is so heartwarming to see our hard work and effort through the years be put to such a deserving cause,” Kelsey Austin, a member and past President of the DGJWC said at the awards ceremony. “This grant really is a product of our teamwork and the dedication of so many DGJWC members over the past few years.”

The DuPage Senior Citizens Council programs include Senior Nutrition (including both Home Delivered Meals and Community Dining), Health and Wellness Education, Well-Being Visits and Safety Checks, and Home Maintenance (including Minor Home Repair, Contractor Referrals, and Chore Days).
