Downers Grove Museum Wins Award

The state prize is for the museum's salute to the Girl Scouts' 100th anniversary.

The Downers Grove Park District Museum's Making Girl Scout History exhibit received the Award of Excellence Aug. 6 from the Illinois Association of Museums.

The Downers Grove Park District Museum and the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts through the Making Girl Scout History exhibit highlighting the major changes and milestones within the organization. The exhibit was on display at Downers Grove Park District Museum Annex Building from Oct. 1, 2011 through Jan. 14, 2012. A dedication ceremony was held at the exhibit opening and included a Girl Scout sing-along and a brief history presentation. 

The Illinois Association of Museums, organized in 1994, is composed of museums, historical and genealogical societies, zoos, arboreta and other cultural and educational agencies in Illinois that are involved in the preservation and interpretation of history, prehistory, natural and built environments, and social, scientific, cultural, and/or artistic endeavors. The association provides advocacy, promotion of best practices and fostering of the exchange of ideas in the museum community.
