Downers Grove Public Library Receives Readers' Advisory Services Award

Book Genie has recommended more than 3,000 titles since her debut.

The Downers Grove Public Library has been awarded the first Readers’ Advisory Services Award, selected by the Illinois Library Association (ILA) Reference Services Forum.

Nominated by library Director Rick Ashton, Book Genie “fulfills a major strategy of our 2012-2014 Strategic Plan, to ‘maintain a focus on books and reading and associated services.’ To accompany and enhance our traditional Readers’ Advisory work, we have developed a new, online, interactive advisory service.”

This interactive quiz can be found at www.dglibrary.org/genie. Book suggestions are provided for kids, teens, and adults are are updated every three months. Book Genie also suggests seasonal categories like Movie Genie during The Oscars and Super Genie during our superhero summer reading club.

The ILA Awards Committee presented the Downers Grove Public Library with the recognition onSeptember 2. Library representatives will attend the Awards Gala during the Illinois Library Conference in Peoria on October 23.
