Families Invited to Crosstown Classic Basketball Series

Proceeds will benefit Herrick's Bloom's Angels and O'Neill Fitness Center.

Downers Grove Grade School District 58 invites families to its new Crosstown Classic basketball series. The series will offer families a great opportunity to cheer on their favorite middle school basketball team while giving back to the community.

The series kicks off with the O’Neill boys’ basketball team playing Herrick at Downers Grove South on Sunday, Dec. 6. Seventh grade will play at 1 p.m., and eighth grade will play at 2:15 p.m. The series continues with the Herrick girls’ basketball team taking on O’Neill at Downers Grove North on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016. Seventh grade will play at6:30 p.m., and eighth grade will play at 7:45 p.m.

The Crosstown Classic will feature family games, band performances, an auction and concessions. Proceeds from the Dec. 6 game will support the O’Neill Fitness Center Fund, and proceeds from the Feb. 27 game will benefit Bloom’s Angels, an organization that supports Herrick families in need.

Admission is $5/person or $15/family. Families may purchase tickets at the door or during fall parent-teacher conferences. Each paying customer will receive one raffle ticket for a chance to shoot a basket at half court. Individuals who make the half-court basket will win $50.

“This truly is a great experience for our community, so feel free to bring your family, friends and neighbors,” said Gail Pistello, Herrick teacher and Bloom’s Angels co-founder and coordinator. “Come and enjoy the games, the school band, the concessions and the prizes all while helping a great cause.”
