DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police seized a loaded gun and say they found several empty cans of beer in a car during a traffic stop in Downers Grove last week.

Officers pulled the Dodge Magnum near Highland and 39th over just before 1:45 p.m. on Jan. 18 after they were informed that the driver may have been a man who had been reported missing in Aurora. The driver, whom police say identified himself as Carl Redmond, told officers he was a convicted felon and did not have any weapons in his possession, per the Downers Grove crime blotter.

Police report that they spotted "several empty cans of beer" in the car's front and backseats while speaking with Redmond. Shortly after, officers placed Redmond under arrest for a charge of driving without a valid license.

After Redmond was taken into custody, police say they told him they would do an inventory on his car. Officers reported finding a .38-caliber Ruger with five rounds loaded in the car's center console.

According to police, the Ruger had no serial number and Redmond did not have a valid FOID or conceal carry license.
