Bookology: it’s the science of good books, making Downers Grove Public Library staff experts in the field, or bookologists. Browsedglibrary.org/books/bookology to get to know library staff, who might have some of the same interests (reading and other) as you do.

Joy is a librarian in the Adult & Teen Services Department who enjoys reading historical fiction, food memoirs, and religious nonfiction.
Ever since preschool Joy has enjoyed trips to the public library. Her dad and sisters accompanied her on this Saturday morning ritual that opened the doors to all sorts of adventures. She says “There’s something irresistibly inviting every time I open a book I’ve never read before, for I never know where the author will take me and what feelings will rise within as I read.” For that reason, historical fiction is Joy’s primary reading pleasure - so many places to go and characters to meet! Joy also admits she’s guilty of picking up a book by its cover. (We don’t blame her.)

Some of Joy’s recommendations include All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, Burnt Toast Makes You Sing Good by Kathleen Finn, and Becoming Human by Jean Vanier. A display in the first floor lobby also includes her favorite movies and music CDs. Come take a look!
