Violent Crime Up in Downers Grove: FBI Report

The FBI recently released its annual ”Crime in the United States” report, which shows there were more crimes reported in Downers Grove in 2014 than there were in 2013.

According to the report, Downers Grove saw 30 violent crimes in 2014, while in 2013, the village had 25 reports of violent crimes.

Violent crime includes offenses involving force or the threat of force: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, according to the FBI.

Of the violent and non-violent crimes reported in 2014 in the village, there were:

• 0 murders and non-negligent manslaughters
• 7 rapes
• 8 robberies
• 15 aggravated assaults
• 652 property crimes
• 84 burglaries
• 549 reports of larceny/theft

Nationally, violent crime decreased last year by 0.2 percent from 2013, according to the report.
