2 South Elgin High School Students Killed, 3 Injured In Crash: PD

Two of the four students in a Honda Civic were killed in the crash, which involved in a semi-tractor trailer on Illinois Route 25.

ELGIN, IL — Two South Elgin High School students were killed, and three more people were injured on Thursday morning in a crash involving a car and a semi-tractor trailer on Illinois Route 25, police said.

Two female passengers in a Honda Civic, both students at South Elgin High School were killed in the crash, which took place around 7 a.m. at the intersection of Route 25 and Kenyon Road, Bartlett Police said.

Police have not provided details of the crash, but said that one of the two girls killed in the crash was pronounced dead at the scene while the other was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries before she died Thursday morning. The driver of the semi-tractor trailer along with the female driver of the Honda Civic and another female passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The U-46 District Crisis Team has been activated at the high school, police said. The accident remains under investigation and police said that Route 25 remains closed between West Bartlett Road and Graham Road.

"Losing a member of our school community is a tragedy, sad, and may be difficult to understand. Four South Elgin High School students were involved in a car accident this morning. According to our law enforcement, two of the students lost their lives, and one of the other students is in critical condition and is being treated in an area hospital and the fourth student has non-life-threatening injuries."

The district said that at this time, it cannot release the names of the students and said it has grief counselors on duty for emotional support for students, staff, and family members.
