Fire Reported At Homeless Encampment In Elgin

ELGIN, IL — Firefighters responded to a blaze at a homeless encampment in Elgin Wednesday afternoon.

No one was injured in the blaze, which was reported at about 4:50 p.m. near North State Street and Kimball Street, according to a news release from the Elgin Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived, two to three structures were fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews worked to quickly bring the blaze under control, fire officials said.

No injuries have been reported and fire crews are working to thoroughly search the area to make sure no one was affected by the blaze.

Meanwhile, Metra has suspended its train service through Elgin due to the fires proximity to the railroad tracks.
