Gang Member Fatally Stabs Man, 21, Over His Clothing Choice: Officials
Anthony Contreras is accused of fatally stabbing Sunday Ogunjimi, 36, earlier this month in Elgin.

KANE COUNTY, IL — A 21-year-old Elgin man has been denied pre-trial release after he was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing of a 36-year-old man in Elgin over the weekend.
During a court hearing Thursday where Kane County Judge Julia Yetter denied release for Anthony Contreras, Assistant State’s Attorney Mark Stajdohar said the stabbing centered around the clothing choice of Sunday Ogunjimi, 36, the Daily Herald reports.
Contreras questioned Ogunjimi, who was wearing red and black, over why he chose those colors to wear while the two were at a home in the 1000 block of Cedar Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 12.

He then approached Ogunjimi, asking him for $1 and a beer, before stabbing him when he reached into his backpack to retrieve the beer, the Daily Herald is reporting. Contreras, who belongs to a gang, later told police that rivals to his gang wear red and black.
Stajdohar said Ogunjimi did not know Contreras and was not part of a gang, according to the article.
