ELGIN, IL — An Elgin man pleaded guilty to first-degree murder after he strangled his wife and left her body alone with their young children, authorities said Thursday.

Wendy Ayllon picked up her husband, Victor H. Ayllon, in the early morning hours of July 12, 2021, according to the Office of the Kane County State’s Attorney. A camera inside the couple's home captured the sound of arguing, the victim screaming and a thud between 2:16 a.m. and 3:16 a.m., when Victor Ayllon left the residence, authorities said.

Many hours later, a 4-year-old boy was found in the evening walking alone at Lawrence and Aldine avenues, according to authorities, who said officers went to the child’s address in the 300 block of Heine Avenue and discovered Wendy Ayllon’s body and her 3-year-old son.

Investigators found Victor Ayllon at his parents’ home with faint marks on his wrists, authorities said, adding he admitted to killing his wife.

“The heinous action of the defendant, who callously strangled his wife to death and left her body with their two young children, is utterly reprehensible,” State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser said in a news release. “The guilty plea secured today brings some measure of justice for Wendy Ayllon, whose life was tragically cut short, and her family.”
