Murder Charges Filed In Elgin Stabbing Death

A 21-year-old Elgin man now faces first-degree murder charges in connection with the Saturday stabbing in Elgin.

ELGIN, IL — A 21-year-old man has been arrested on first-degree murder charges for allegations he fatally stabbed a man over the weekend in Elgin.

Anderson Contreras, of the 700 block of Dundee Avenue in Elgin, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm in connection with the Saturday stabbing, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

Authorities were called to the scene of the stabbing in the 1000 block of Cedar Avenue in Elgin at about 12:30 p.m. and found a man with a stab wound to the torso area, according to the news release. He was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin where he was later pronounced dead.

Police later took Contreras into custody in connection with the man's death. He was transported to the Kane County Jail to await detention proceedings.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday for the man who was killed in the stabbing. His name has not yet been released.
