Wednesday, January 7th, an American citizen was killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This killing is part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse carried out by federal immigration enforcement agencies against members of our communities. 
A broad coalition of groups across the country is calling for a coordinated Ice Out For Good Weekend of Action on Saturday, January 10th and Sunday, January 11th (Our event is on SUNDAY, Jan 11th at noon) to demand accountability, honor the life lost, and make visible the human cost of ICE’s actions.   RSVP <a href="https://www.mobilize.us/dashboard/indivisible/event/882683/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">mobilize.us/dashboard/indivisible/event/882683/</a>
A core principle behind all ICE Out For Good events is a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values, and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events

Secretary of State Mobile DMV to Appear at the Itasca Community Library

The Illinois Secretary of State's mobile Driver Services unit will be at the Itasca Community Library on January 12, 2026. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 500 W Irving Park Rd, Itasca, IL 60143

Representatives of the Secretary of State's office will be on hand to assist with renewing or correcting driver's licenses, converting existing standard driver’s licenses into REAL ID driver’s licenses, obtaining renewed or first time Standard or REAL state IDs, issuing free state IDs for seniors aged 65 or older, and purchasing license plate stickers.&nbsp; 

Attendees can also register to be an organ donor/tissue donor and register to vote while applying for a driver’s license or identification card.

Curtain raises at 11 AM followed immediately by an audience Q&amp;A with the cast. The is free event, however, reservations are requested.“Strollin’ Down MLK” is the first of original productions in the KIT Ministries six-play series, “Convergence of History: Four Anniversaries, One Faith,” that dramatize people and events of U.S. and African-American history and the role of Christianity in shaping each.

The Nineteenth Century Charitable Association

Three members of the Japanese-American Service Committee explore the&nbsp;remarkable story of Chicago’s Japanese-American community. Historian&nbsp;and writer Erik Matsunago shares the little-known history of post-World War II&nbsp;resettlement with moving first-person accounts of&nbsp;participants in JASC Oral&nbsp; History Project.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ross Harano and Linda Kawano participated in the Oral History project, and will share personal stories of their families resettling in Chicago from the incarceration camps.



 These&nbsp;stories of resilience and change will give you a&nbsp;deeper understanding of socio-economic and&nbsp;political forces that shaped&nbsp; Chicago in the&nbsp;decades after the war.


Our Monday Enrichment programs, on music, art, literature, science and social sciences, are always free to the public with freewill donations appreciated. This program is part of "A Japanese Themester", funded by a generous grant from the Toshiba International Foundation.

The Art Institute of Chicago has been displaying and acquiring&nbsp;Japanese art since the 1950s. The latest exhibition is&nbsp;Radical Clay, focusing on women ceramic artists from&nbsp;Japan. Dr. Janice Katz will speak about the display and&nbsp;acquisitions made during her time at the museum,&nbsp;highlighting efforts to present tradition-based as well as avant-garde&nbsp;contemporary art.

Nancy Matsumoto shares her family history, introducing&nbsp;her grandparents, Tomiko and Ryokuyo Matsumoto, who, in 1960,&nbsp;published a book of tanka poetry written during their WWII-era internment, By the Shore of Lake&nbsp;Michigan, now translated into English.
