ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst Hospital plans a $101 million expansion and renovation of its building on Brush Hill Road.

The project involves a two-story expansion above its cancer center. It also includes adding three operating rooms, support space and a 16-bed observation unit.

With the two-story addition, one floor would be for the cancer center's clinic and administrative space, the other for relocated endoscopy procedural rooms and support spaces.

Two days before Christmas, Endeavor Health, which owns the hospital, submitted an application to the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board for the proposed project.

The project's total square footage would be 33,450 of new construction and 40,950 of modernization, according to the application.

The estimated completion date is Sept. 30, 2028.

The hospital said it has experienced major growth in its medical and surgical units, with inpatient days increasing by a third since 2018. This has resulted in bed capacity constraints, it said.

According to the application, the project would bring about faster patient access and reduce wait times for proper treatment.

"By right-sizing our campus space and increasing operational efficiency, we can lower overall costs associated with healthcare delivery," the application said.
